Following on from the post about skateboard bearings we now go onto skateboard wheels!
Skateboard wheels come in alot of different sizes and durometers so im going to explain what this all means to help you choose the right skateboard wheel for your type of skateboarding.
Generally speaking a smaller size wheel between 50mm and 54mm is a great size if you are mainly going to be skateing street and doing flip tricks as they are lighter and will help with flipping the board, where as a larger size wheel 55mm to 60mm is more suited to transition and bowl skating.
I would reccomend a 52mm wheel as a good starting point if you intend to skate more street or park and a 56mm for transition and bowl skateing.
The hardness of the wheels also plays an important part when choosing your wheels but as a guide a 99d to 101d is best for street skateing as they are nice and hard so will roll really nicely and they are very flatspot resistant.
A softer wheel is great for cruiser boards and filmer boards as they give a very smooth ride over most terrain.
When choosing your skateboard wheels dont over complicate it, stick to a size and choose whatever your budget allows. Just make sure you buy them from a skateboarder owned and run shop, they will always have the best choice and advice for you and your money will be going straight back into skateboarding, so support the scene you are in.
Happy skateboarding peeps!
