Skateboard deck buying guide

Choosing a skateboard deck can be a bit of a task sometimes so Im going to try and help you guys the best I can.
Now the best thing you can do is head down to your local skater owned skateshop where you will get friendly help and advice and stand on a few decks of different sizes to actually feel what will be right for you.
Skateboard decks come in various different widths but the most popular are between 7.75 inches wide and 8.5 inches wide.
Generally a good base to start is with an 8 inch wide deck because its not too skinny and not too wide.  Next you have to think about what sort of skateboarding it is you are going to be doing, street, transition, park, again for street a slimmer board often works better and for transition a wider board works better mainly because its much more stable and easier to carve on.
There are also varying concaves on skateboard decks and to be honest this is down to personal preference, for me a medium concave works best but for you it may be something different.
Just as an example I ride an 8 inch wide deck and I have size uk 8 feet and I am 5 feet 11 inches tall, my son is 3 feet 10 inches tall and size uk kids 11 feet and he rides an 8.125 inch wide board.  So again I cant stress enough how much of a personal preference this really is!
So onto what companys board you want to ride.  This is down to who you want to be backing, just remember buying a blank deck isnt supporting your favourite skateboarder or company so just dont do it unless you really have to!  Support skateboarding and buy a real skateboard deck from a skater owned and run company, keep skateboarding in the hands of the skateboarders and not the big corporate companies.
Most skateshops will also apply the grip to the deck for you if you want them to or why not grip it yourself and make a funky design with it.  Read my previous post on what I believe is the best griptape.
Happy skateboarding peeps!  and if you have any questions please leave a comment below :)
